Walter Henry Gelinas, born July 14, 1935, handed absent Sept. 6, 2021, with relatives associates present. Walt was born in Somerville, Massachusetts, and was the youngest of three boys. Thanks to the premature demise of his father, he commenced supporting his mom by operating nights though attending large faculty.
He graduated from Arlington High University in 1953 and soon joined the United States Air Force. He served from 1954 to 1974, in New York, Colorado, Puerto Rico, Washington, South Dakota, North Dakota, Panama and Alaska. 50 percent of his occupation he served in the Strategic Air Command. His time fixing aircraft for the air commandos was a supply of quite a few tales. Retiring as a technological sergeant of material command and scheduling in North Dakota, he signed out of the Air Power in 1974. He and his household started the push up the Alaska-Canadian Freeway towards the piece of land he experienced obtained, sight-unseen, in North Pole, Alaska.
Just after navy retirement, Walt worked for the Alaska Railroad for 11 yrs in Fairbanks as a diesel mechanic and foreman. After a long time of research and planning, Walt was ordained at Saint Nicholas Catholic Church in November 1988. Walt is survived by his ex-spouse, Isabel his 4 young children, Joseph (Tyra) Gelinas in Alaska, Kay “Linda” (Charles) Emerson in Virginia, Alicia (Julieanne) Quigley in Oregon, and William (Phanh) Gelinas in Hawaii and grandchildren, Michael, Katrina, Sawyer, Charles, Karen, Jacquelyn, Annette, Marisol, Andie, Emmett and Zane and good-grandchildren, Joey and Addie and various nieces and nephews in the Decrease 48. Walt was preceded in loss of life by his father, George mother, Ethel brothers, George and John and 3 sisters who died at beginning.
A funeral Mass will just take place at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 15, at Saint Nicholas Catholic Church in North Pole. A reception will follow the Mass in the parish corridor. Walt will be interred with army honors at Northern Lights Memorial Park in Fairbanks on Thursday, Sept. 16. at 10 am. Preparations are by Chapel of Chimes.
