Marie Mason – Washington Everyday News

Dr. Marie Mason, a longtime resident of Raleigh, passed away on August 30, 2021.  She was born in Rose Bay, NC on July 29, 1916, to Joseph Redden and Ina Bennett Mason.  She was predeceased by her moms and dads and her six brothers and sisters, Clyde, Gladys, Harvey, Marvin, Mary Elizabeth, and John.

Her extended and attained everyday living provided a lot of milestones and a great deal assistance. She acquired her nursing diploma in Rocky Mount, NC after graduating from significant university in Hyde County, NC.  She attended Campbell Junior Faculty as their very first university nurse earning her tuition as she concurrently attended lessons and coached the women’s basketball group there.  She graduated in 1941 and later on ongoing her education at Meredith Faculty in Raleigh. She joined the Military Nurse Corps in the course of Entire world War II and served as a Initially Lieutenant from 1943 to 1946, together with two several years in Italy, frequently working with wounded German prisoners of war.  Immediately after the war, she returned to Meredith Faculty in which she gained her B.A. degree in 1947 following attending the College of Kentucky in which she gained her master’s diploma in Sociology.

In Lexington, KY she labored at St. Joseph Medical center and the Great Samaritan Healthcare facility where by she was Director of the Faculty of Nursing.  She turned the Director of Nursing at the new Central Baptist Clinic and afterwards, turned the Director of Nursing at the Louisville Baptist Hospital in Louisville, KY.  She acquired a PhD in Psychology and Counseling from University of Kentucky in 1966.  In 1969, she became Dean of Learners and Affiliate Professor of Psychology at Meredith University, her alma mater.  She held the Dean of Learners and professor positions until 1974 and 1987, respectively, and was the Director of Campus Affairs at Meredith until she retired in 1998.

She founded scholar scholarships in 1996 for Meredith College or university and Campbell College college students to assist endorse education and for the betterment of other individuals.

As a lifelong Baptist, she was incredibly lively at Millbrook Baptist Church in Raleigh. She taught Sunday faculty, was a deacon and deacon chair, served on the Missions Committee and was the Director of the Women’s Missionary Union for many yrs. She expended evenings at a homeless shelter and the church weekly serving people who wanted shelter.  Becoming deeply devoted to her church loved ones and a life of services, she worked day-to-day as a volunteer in the church office and Raleigh Baptist Affiliation for yet another 14 decades next her retirement.

She was a receiver of North Carolina’s greatest civilian honor authorized by the governor, The Get of the Lengthy Leaf Pine, in 2016 for her exemplary support to the condition and her community.

She remained in her household with caregivers and church customers viewing to her requires until finally her death.  The relatives wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers who served increase her life and furnished her with ‘extra family’ when she essential it most.

A graveside company with military services honors will be held at the Oakdale Cemetery in Washington, NC on Thursday, September 9th, 2021. A memorial service will be held at Millbrook Baptist Church, the date of which is not nonetheless identified.
